Extending Recess

Advocates for the developmental benefits of play have been saying this for decades, but four schools in the Fort Worth area of Texas are putting this into practice - with some promising early results!  Instead of offering one or perhaps two recess periods during the school day, Eagle Mountain Elementary in Fort Worth, Texas allows their youngest kids to enjoy two 15-minute recess periods in the morning followed by an additional two breaks in the afternoon.  Check out this great story that was aired on the TODAY show this morning, highlighting a pilot program that has not only children smiling, but teachers and parents as well. View Today Show story here
