Attendees will learn about which aspects of playground design can support the equitable needs and enjoyment of children and adults with autism. Special guest and award-winning professor, author, and advocate for people with autism, Temple Grandin, will share her observations and experiences as a person with autism, and how the sensory aspects of play can help to calm and refocus the ability to cope with external stimuli and socialization. Michele Valadie, Director of Community Services at Signal Centers, will explain how developmental benefits can be reinforced for children with autism during playtime and how educators can identify and outline specific milestones. Participants in this webinar will leave with an increased knowledge of how to help meet the varied needs of their community members with autism through playground selection and design.
